Martin Newland is a British journalist and currently an advisor to Abu Dhabi Media.
Newland came to Abu Dhabi in 2007 to launch The National newspaper. Before that he was Editor of The Daily Telegraph in the UK and a launch editor of the National Post in Canada. He has thus launched, co-launched and edited three national newspapers on three continents under six separate proprietors at a time when changing media consumption patterns have presented significant challenges to traditional methods of news gathering and content dissemination.
The National in Abu Dhabi and the National Post in Canada were among the last national newspaper launches before the digital age changed the global media landscape irreversibly.
He has written and lectured in the past on the implications of digital on public interest journalism and traditional media revenue streams.
After leaving The National Editorship in 2009, he was Publisher at Abu Dhabi Media and is now a consultant at the company.
